रक्तमोक्षण – ‘रक्त’ और मोक्षना का अर्थ है ‘मुक्ति’। इस प्रक्रिया में रक्त के साथ रुग्ण दोषों को दूर करने के चिकित्सीय उद्देश्य के लिए रक्तपात शामिल है या इसका अभ्यास रक्त जनित रोगों, पित्त प्रमुख रोगों और कुछ वात विकारों में भी किया जा सकता है।  यह त्वचा विकार, गठिया, गाउट और कुछ पुरानी बीमारियों जैसी स्थितियों के प्रबंधन में अत्यधिक प्रभावी है जहां विषाक्त पदार्थों का संचय महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है। इस थेरेपी में किसी व्यक्ति का निदान करने के बाद, जोंक को शरीर के विशिष्ट अंग पर लगाया जाता है और वहां रहने के लिए बनाया जाता है। एक बार जब जोंक साइट से खून चूसना समाप्त कर देता है, तो या तो जोंक खुद को अलग कर लेता है या कुछ हर्बल दवा के छिड़काव से मैन्युअल रूप से अलग किया जा सकता है।

Raktamokshana derives its name from Rakta meaning ‘blood’ and mokshana meaning ‘liberation’. This treatment literally ‘releases’ impure blood from the system. This process involves bloodletting for the therapeutic purpose for removing morbid Doshas with blood or it can be practiced in blood borne diseases, in Pitta predominant diseases and also in a few Vata disorders.  It is highly effective in managing conditions like skin disorders, arthritis, gout, and certain chronic diseases where the accumulation of toxins plays a significant role. In this therapy after diagnosing a person, leech is applied to specific body part and is made to stay there. Once the leech finishes sucking blood from the site, then either the leech separates itself or may be separated manually by sprinkling of some herbal medicine.
