Acupuncture is one of the many skills used within physiotherapy as an integrated approach to the management of pain and inflammation and as a means of stimulating the body’s own healing chemicals in order to aid recovery and enhance rehabilitation. The physiotherapists will use acupuncture to help to provide a variety of benefits including pain relief, reducing muscle spasm and reducing joint stiffness. Electro-acupuncture machines have adjustable current and voltage settings. Low voltages and frequencies will be used at first, though your acupuncturist may adjust the frequency and voltage of the current during treatment. The electric current pulsates, alternating between the two needles.

You can see Crocodile clips, which are attached to the hair-thin needs to pass on electric current pulses. This equipment is capable of generating pulses of different frequency which is decided by the therapist.
